If you have ever considered undergoing a hair transplant, then understanding the full process is imperative. Many people opt for a hair transplant in Turkey Istanbul, given the region’s reputation for quality and affordability. Here, we will break down the hair transplant process into easy-to-understand steps, so you can make an informed decision.

    1. Initial Consultation

The first step in the hair transplant process is the initial consultation. During this meeting, you’ll discuss your medical history and hair loss pattern with a specialist. This consultation often includes a physical exam and possibly some preliminary tests to pinpoint the reasons behind your hair loss. Here, you will also discuss your expectations and any concerns you might have.

    2. Pre-Surgery Preparations

After a successful consultation, pre-surgery preparations begin. You may be required to abstain from certain medications, such as blood thinners, and avoid alcohol and smoking in the days leading up to the procedure. Additionally, you might receive specific instructions regarding washing your hair or applying topical treatments. These steps are crucial for ensuring that you are in the best possible condition for your surgery.

    3. Harvesting Hair Follicles

On the day of the surgery, the first step usually involves harvesting hair follicles from the donor area, typically the back of your head where hair is more resistant to balding. The most common methods are Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). In FUE, individual hair follicles are extracted using a micro-punch tool, while in FUT, a strip of scalp is removed and then divided into individual grafts. The extraction technique is chosen based on various factors, including hair type and the extent of hair loss.

    4. Preparing the Grafts

Once the hair follicles have been harvested, they are carefully prepared for transplantation. This involves trimming and categorising the grafts under a microscope to ensure they are ready for optimal placement. This step is crucial as it directly impacts the survival rate of the transplanted hairs.

    5. Implanting the Hair Follicles

The next step involves implanting the prepared hair follicles into the recipient area. The surgeon will make tiny incisions where each graft will be placed. The angle, depth, and density of these incisions must be meticulously planned to ensure a natural look. This phase of the process can take several hours, depending on the number of grafts being implanted.

    6. Post-Surgery Care

After the procedure, the patient will receive detailed post-surgery care instructions. These generally include guidelines on how to wash your hair, what medications to take, and what activities to avoid. Swelling, redness, and mild discomfort are common in the initial days following the surgery, but these symptoms typically subside within a week. Adhering to the specialist’s post-operative care advice is essential for a successful recovery and optimal results.

    7. Recovery and Results

Full recovery from a hair transplant can take several months. Initially, the transplanted hair will shed within a few weeks, which is a normal part of the process. New hair growth generally starts around the three-month mark, with significant improvements visible between six to nine months. It’s crucial to have realistic expectations and understand that hair growth is a gradual process.
